How we move and why it matters: Yoga meets Science
- Do you work at a desk?
- Have a limited range of motion?
- Drive a lot?
- Workout a lot? (run, lift, bootcamp, spin etc.)
- Tight or Sore?
- Have suffered from an injury?
The list goes on and on! We are designed to move: to walk, run, play, jump, squat, reach – you name it. I love watching my daughter play, or any child for that matter, and seeing the range of free movement they engage in. As we get older we lose this ability and become stiffer. We spend so much time in poor, static positions like in front of a computer, staring at our phones, tv’s driving etc. and our bodies get ‘tight’. Incorporating a mobility routine focuses on movements that will increase your range of motion, your stabilization and the control of the muscles that surround your joints to give you more space and ability to have free movement no matter what the end goal is.
Not only is mobility great for just the simple fact of feeling good in your body – but if you are active in any way whether that’s lifting, running, any kind of athlete or momma of little kiddos – mobility work is a game changer for performance and injury prevention.
You want to get bigger, stronger, and faster? If your weekly routine just consists of lifting and conditioning work, you’re only incorporating two of the three ingredients necessary to reach this goal. What’s missing? Your ability to actually move all that meat and muscle around—also known as mobility. – Mens Journal
Mobility isn’t the same as flexibility, although its close! Mobility incorporates both flexibility and strength. Focusing on controlled dynamic stretching, myofascial work (like foam-rolling) & bodyweight movements.
Bottom line:
- Do you want to feel great in your body?
- Relieve stiffness, tightness & aches and pains?
- Lift heavier?
- Reduce Injury?
- Outperform other athletes?
- Increase hip mobility in your runs?
- The ability to chase after your kids without ending the day with back pain?
- Advance your yoga practice with more active flexibility?
Move with purpose, not perfection by focusing on mobility over flexibility. These classes are for real life and real bodies.
